The goal is to reduce the risk of surgical complications, shorten recovery times, and decrease the need for corrective surgeries. Users of the CE-marked device are surgeons in the fields of ear, nose, and throat (ENT) surgery, orthopedics, and neurosurgery, where bone tissue needs to be removed as part of surgical procedures.<br><br>The decisive selection criterion was Surgify Halo\u2019s ability to address an unmet clinical need. The current, expanded Surgify Halo product family includes three sizes (3.0 mm, 4.0 mm, and 5.4 mm). Surgify Medical describes the value of this innovation in pediatric healthcare as follows:<br><br>\u201cThis innovation could be particularly significant in pediatric surgical procedures. Children\u2019s smaller and more delicate anatomy requires special precision and gentleness, which places high demands on the surgical instruments used. Surgify Halo is designed to protect soft tissues during bone drilling procedures, and we believe it is suitable for such surgeries that require precision.\u201d<br><br>Surgify Medical will launch a usability pilot in May at the pediatric orthopedics clinic of the New Children\u2019s Hospital. The aim is for three surgeons at the New Children\u2019s Hospital to test Halo\u2019s different sizes in scoliosis surgeries over a period of approximately 1\u20132 months. The data collected from the pilot supports the company\u2019s ongoing development work and helps assess the suitability of the device\u2019s various sizes for pediatric surgeries.<br><br><strong>Elena Pennanen<\/strong>, Market Development Manager at Surgify Medical, explains the rationale behind the pilot as follows:<br><br>\u201cOur motivation is to evaluate the usability of the various blade sizes in the Surgify Halo product family during pediatric orthopedic procedures. We are constantly developing new solutions, such as new Halo sizes, and refining our products in collaboration with surgeons to meet the needs of both them and their patients. We want our products to be developed for surgeons in collaboration with surgeons. Our goal is to ensure that the size options in our product family support safe, precise, and smooth procedures in pediatric orthopedic surgery.\u201d<br><br><br><em>The Pediatric Innovation Challenge is aimed at startups and companies operating within the EU that are developing new technologies, diagnostics, or treatment methods for pediatric healthcare.
